New Label Love...Shilla

I love discovering new independent labels and quite recently, I've managed to find a gem in Shilla Clothing. If you've been following my insta, you would know that I've been sporting this label on the regular thanks to the casual and chic vibes from all their pieces.

Shilla mostly work their pieces around neutral tones which I love, but also do some amazing prints like the digital print on the blazer and dress shown below. If you take a little look around the Shilla website you'll notice lots of timeless pieces, especially in monochrome or neutral colours, which are staples in my current wardrobe!

You might recognise this print from my White Suede SS14 post where I wore the blazer on the left to the preview, LOVE this print!

Here are a few pics of me sporting some of my favourite Shilla styles...

I was lucky enough to get a hold of Sunny Park, the talented designer behind Shilla, to take me through the ins and outs of what makes up such an amazing label...

Tell us the story behind Shilla clothing?
The brand was established in 2006 as I found that Australian women have fabulous fashion sense and style. I saw there was gap in the market for original and sophisticated high street Australian labels. I named the brand ‘Shilla’ after my origins (the name relates to Old Kingdoms in Korea). My background lies in both fashion buying and fashion design. I loved the idea of balancing creativity with business elements so with these skills Shilla was born. I am now the designer and creative director behind the label.

Describe to us the ultimate Shilla girl.
The Shilla girl is fashion savvy, and follows trends but is creative enough to put them together in her own right and stand out from the crowd. She is able to perfectly balance feminine with edgy. She styles herself in a sleek and sophisticated way.

For those who haven’t added any Shilla pieces into their wardrobe yet, talk us through how Shilla distinguishes itself from the rest of the other labels out there in the market today.
Each and every season we release a range of basics to complement the pieces in the range as well as your wardrobe. Our styles are perfectlypoised between aspirational and achievable fashion. We wanted to create something special for the everyday ‘fashionista’. We do this by designing cutting edge styles at achievable prices.

We are so lucky to live in an era where there are so many great sources of inspiration, not only in person but online; who or what do you draw inspiration from when it comes to style?
I draw inspiration from everything around me. Whether it be the tones in the Autumn leaves or the deep lapis hues of the ocean. I am inspired by my love of traveling to exotic places, my Korean heritage and searching for up and coming trends across the globe. I am a complete collector – fabrics, accessories and vintage clothing samples overtake my design studio. You could say I am inspired by Alexander Wang, well enough to own a collection of his magnificent handbags. The perfect accessory to complete my Shilla attire!

How would you describe the current collection and what was the inspiration behind the Winter 2013 range, Great Expectations?
Great Expectations is dramatic and luxurious. Billowing blouses, equestrian details and rich, opulent fabrics set the mark for this collection. Inspired by runway trends and winter’s darker moods of red wine, oatmeal, gold and pitch black.

Favourite piece from the current collection?
That’s a tricky one… it would have to be the ‘Great Shaggy jacket’ and ‘Shaggy vest’  - they are both long line cardigan/vests with a twist, that fabulous Shaggy Texture for the ultimate winter statement.

Where is Shilla heading in the future in terms of upcoming collections? What should we get excited about?
Be very excited! Shilla is set for some very directional upcoming seasons. Silhouettes are simple yet effective. Reactions occur between volume and space, print and colour, lace and luxurious fabric. Key pieces include embellished staple pieces, sports luxe, the jumpsuit, mesh, oversized floral blooms just to name a few.

Make sure you visit the Shilla website here and have a look around!
