ALESSA The Label S/S 2013

ALESSA the Label is moving from strength to strength! Since launching, the two lovely ladies behind the label, Jordie and Sarah, have not only distinguished themselves as fresh designers but have also managed to grow quite a cult following. And after viewing the upcoming SS13 collection, I doubt this label will be heading anywhere besides up.

I was lucky enough to touch base with the inspiring Jordie and Sarah who kept me every bit informed about ALESSA and what's soon to come!

How would you describe the ultimate ALESSA girl?
The ultimate A L E S S A girl loves to keep on trend but is also someone who invests in key timeless pieces. She’s classic yet carries a bit of an edge to her.

Talk us through your upcoming S/S13 collection.
We have incorporated exclusive prints mixed in with silk, embellished pieces and leather pieces. Sarah and I are inspired by our designs based on the prints we source. This season we have a real mix of prints which we feel gives the A L E S S A customer different options depending on what mood they’re in. You can see this in the Amana, Seneca and Rubia prints. The different shapes we have designed also provide a number of options for each A L E S S A girl. We recognize the importance of this from a commercial point of view. Then we have the Mackie story which was more of an edgy story within the She’s Electric collection. These pieces have a mesh detail on them which we are in love with and look great worn with our leather garments. These pieces will last you year on year.

Where did you draw inspiration from for your new ranges, She’s Electric and Eternity?
Travel always plays a key role in our design inspiration and Sarah’s recent trip to Mexico and Jordie’s trip to Brazil were no exception. The bright and bold colours of the buildings and food as well as the crystal blue waters inspired both our Amana and Seneca prints in our ‘She’s Electric’ collection.

She’s Electric is quite bold and edgy so we also wanted to offer a more feminine collection because we know the ALESSA girl loves both these things. Therefore, Eternity was inspired by a desire to be feminine and ethereal. We designed soft lace and floral pieces to embody femininity and gracefulness.

What trends do you think will surface or be highlighted coming up to Spring/Summer?
More prints and colours, (especially blues) and we’ll also be seeing a lot more white as well. Different lengths and hemlines will continue to be experimented with.

Your new collection is filled with so many amazingly designed and cut pieces, what would you say is your favourite piece from both drops?
We can’t go past our White Leather Sloane Dress from the She’s Electric collection! We love the curved hem detail and the leather is so soft. And we love the Eternal Lace Skirt from the Eternity Collection.

What’s next for ALESSA?
We are constantly looking to evolve as a brand and improve on each collection we design. Each season we learn more about our customers and what works for our brand. So what’s next for us is to take on-board all the feedback we receive and get onto the next collection. We are already creating mood boards for AW14 and can’t wait to show you all what we have in mind!
