April Favourites

Monthly favourites is only of my favourite blog posts to write. I love reading other bloggers' favourites as well, it's an insightful look into what's been getting the most use out of there their wardrobes/lives! So here's a little look into what I've been loving especially from April...

1. Tony Bianco Wedges
I've been obsessed with open-toed boots lately, and these pair I picked up from Tony Bianco have been  completing so many of my outfits recently. The only bad thing about it is that I found them at the Tony Bianco outlet which means they're not current season stock, so they will probably be an adventure to track down again unfortunately. I've been pairing these boots with everything from leather pants, jeans and of course, my signature wrap/angular skirts. The low heel wedge means I can easily and comfortably walk around for ages, which makes it perfect for everyday! They manage to transform every outfit to that next level. LOVE.

2. Esther Boutique Sail Away Top (available here)
You all know how much I've been loving this striped top and I'm sure the people around me are sick of seeing me sport it almost everyday. Oops! If you're after a staple navy and white striped full sleeve with a relaxed fit, this is definitely the one!

3. Urban Decay Naked Palette
This has been my go-to palette for all of my eye looks recently! It's got every colour I would possibly wear in one, perfect for travelling (and if you love wearing neutrals like me)! I'm always a fan of a dark brown/bronzey smokey eye and this palette makes it so easy with colours like sidecar, smog and darkhorse all in one place. And it's just as easy to achieve a natural day or a super smokey blacked out look. Super easy! I purchased this from Sephora (i.e. heaven on earth) during my trip to Singapore, so I'm not too sure whether it's available anywhere in Australia or not. Definitely leave me a comment if it is! The only down side to it is that it only has 2 matte shades, however its successor, the Naked 2 palette does have more if you're tossing up between either!

4. Bombardier Designs Candles (available here)
My lovely friend Kayla Bombardier makes the most amazing candles, and I've recently fallen back in love with Roasted Coffee. I've also been loving my own 'Miss Vydia' personalised candle, which is my new prized possession sitting on my bedside table! Personalised candles are such a great gift and I can't think of a better reason to place an order than for Mother's Day coming up soon. I'll be doing a separate post on a Mother's Day gift guide that'll definitely be featuring Bombardier Designs very soon!

5. The Vogue Factor
I've been spending any spare time of mine reading up on Kirstie Clement's tell all book about her time as editor in chief of Vogue, titled The Vogue Factor. Really great book if you liked the style of Grace Coddington's memoirs, Kelly Cutrone books and of course, Lauren Weisberger's The Devil Wears Prada (side note, if you haven't read TDWP book, you'll love it more than the movie!). Beyond insightful!

6. Deitea Tea (available here)
I was gifted this loose leaf tea for attending the Mickey In The Van preview a while back and absolutely love it. The white rose tea is a lovely light white tea with subtle notes of rose and sweet fruits. Love the classic black and white packaging as well! You can purchase these teas online or if you live in Melbourne, from The Estelle Store, Brewsters Food, and Leo's Fine Food & Wine.

7. Nike Swift Running Capris
Love these performance tights. They are super comfortable and lightweight, just how performance wear should be. I bought these in a size small but should've gotten an extra small! They run a bit big in my opinion, so I would definitley try on both your normal size and the size down if you're looking to buy them just to see which size is more fitted. Nike tights are one of my favourites and I've definitely got my eyes on the new the black/white sunset and yellow engineered prints!

What have you been loving for April?

Ask Vydia - Formal Dresses Under $250

Firstly, I absolutely love your blog! I know you have amazing taste in fashion so I was wondering If you could kindly help me. I have my year twelve formal coming up in a few months and I always struggle to find dresses. I am looking for a long formal dress that is chic and unique. I also have a budget of $250. I know this question may be a bit too specific but any help at all, or even suggestions would be of great help. Sara

Hey Sara! Thanks so much for your question, would love to help you find a dress for your formal! I spent ages thinking about what I'd wear to my year 12 formal and even to my Uni Commerce ball. I'm so glad you've chosen to wear a long dress, if you've got any excuse to wear anything maxi, do it!! The hardest choice I had to make regarding my dress was definitley the colour. The way I thought about it was, I didn't want to look like I usually do, which meant one thing, NO BLACK! If I look back on any of my formal/ball pictures, I've always worn white.

I've found a few of my favourite pieces, all from Australian designers, that I'd consider wearing to my formal (given I had to go back to school again!)...

Cameo The Label Heartlines Dress - $179.95

I love Cameo and I absolutely LOVE this dress. I'm always a massive fan of uniquely cut pieces but in monochrome solid colours. Love the cutout neckline, peplum waist and high low hem on this dress. It may seem like a lot's going on but the solid colouring makes the dress look chic and allows the silhouette to do the talking. Like I mentioned before, it's always nice to choose a colour that you wouldn't normally wear, in saying this though, both colours look just as amazing! I love the high low hem because it allows you to show off your shoes, and thanks to the neutral colouring, you can go crazy with whatever shoe colour you'd like. The cobalt blue ankle strap heels look perfect against the black on the right! Likewise, shoes with a little neon pink or yellow detailing would look amazing with the ivory.

Shakuhachi Draped Silk Asymmetric Dress - $280
Shakuhachi Robo Mesh Maxi Dress - $240

The next two dresses are by Shakuhachi. I picked these two dresses once again for their amazing cuts. Love the draping and asymmetric detailing on the dress on the left, and although the colour is orange, the solid colouring makes it works. In other words, this dress is great if you think monochrome is a bit boring and want to wear colour, the orange would look great against any skin tone! I chose the dress on the right because of the mesh detailing which I think is really in right now. I do think that mesh only looks right in either black or white however. The double slits ties in with the current trend and like I mentioned with the previous Cameo dresses, your shoes get a chance to stand out as well!

Bless'ed Are The Meek Ritual Maxi - $149.95

This is such a beautiful dress! Very ethereal and feminine and perfect for that effortless look. The white is simple but chic and the gold hardware at the front (which almost looks like a harness) adds the perfect detailing. This dress would look great styled with tan leather or gold coloured heels, I think black would be too much of a stark contrast against how delicate the dress is. I'm not a huge fan of accessorising formal outfits but a simple cuff, in gold would go really well with this look as would a gold chain headpiece if you were especially feeling the hippie vibe. Something I love about this dress is that it can definitley be worn again during the day with some minimalist sandals. Great day to night piece!

Hope this gave you a little inspiration, have a great time and don't forget to take heaps of photos at your formal!

White Suede S/S 2014 Preview

White Suede just keeps getting better and better. And the upcoming collection hitting stores over the following months is something to get excited about.

I had such a great time talking to White Suede's head designer, Jacqui who took me through her thought process when designing and styling her pieces for her upcoming collection titled White Noise.

The preview was separated into 3 amazing drops. The first initially showcases beautiful leather pieces in my favourite colour (duh black), and moves into a few striking blue and staple monochrome pieces. My absolute favourite aspect from the first drop is the blue, white and black floral, almost oriental print. This print is showcased through an amazing round neck jacket and matching shorts - love a short suit!

The second drop included some great monochrome mesh pieces, which I loved! The print of this drop included Jacqui's take on light and shade hitting origami style shapes. The dress on the mannequin is one of my favourites, love the cut, uneven hem and chiffon draping! This drop also contained the new look leather running shorts with a more curved hem and side panels, which I know you'll all love and wait for it, perforated leather shorts. Need.

Finally, the third drop was filled with pinks, whites and a contrast of soft and bright blues and purples. Very feminine and perfect for spring. I can definitley imagine this range being very popular for the Spring Racing Carnival!

So here's a little preview of what's to come...

We LOVE Zoe's (Bake Me Cake Me) cupcakes!

So here's what I wore... I've currently been obsessed with wearing my plain black Bassike tank dress underneath different shirts and jumpers, and tonight I've paired it with a long sleeve black shirt from Witchery. I broke up the all black everything effect with this AMAZING digital print blazer from Shilla.

Apologies for not doing an outfit post in far too long! Regardless, continuing from my most recent post, here's what I wore to the Micky In The Van preview! Not pushing any boundaries here with the all black, but hopefully my neon pink Steve Maddens makes up for it.

Micky In The Van A/W 2013

Hey everyone, hope you've all been well! So on Monday, I headed off to the iconic Provincial hotel on Brunswick St to check out the Micky In The Van A/W 2013 presentation.

Micky In The Van is the creation of super individual Melbourne designer Estelle.  If you're unfamiliar with the label, think quirky, mismatched patterns, statement jewellery and in the words of Estelle, wearable art. And I couldn't agree more with that last description.  I love the philosophy Estelle has behind all her designs - she doesn't follow seasonal trends or the influence of any other designer. Her designs are just a depiction of her. A simple philosophy I can definitley relate to especially in regard to my blog!

And most importantly, all of Estelle's pieces are designed and made in Melbourne. Love it.
